About Vikram-1

Vikram-1 was developed by Skyroot Aerospace, a Hyderabad-based private aerospace company, and named after India’s pioneering space scientist, Vikram Sarabhai.

The rocket is a seven-storey-tall, multi-stage orbital launch vehicle built with an all-carbon-composite structure. It is powered by in-house developed propulsion systems, including 3D-printed engines and high-thrust solid-fuel rocket boosters.

Vikram-1 is designed to carry small satellites weighing up to 350 kg to Low Earth Orbit. For this first test flight, the rocket targeted a 450-km orbit at a 60-degree inclination.

Regulatory Clearance

Skyroot Aerospace confirmed that all clearances for the launch had been secured from the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe), the government agency responsible for promoting, permitting, and overseeing private-sector space activities in India.

All stages of Vikram-1 were successfully integrated and stacked on the launch pad, followed by final integrated checks from Skyroot’s launch control centre and interface checks with telemetry ground stations and tracking radars.

Pawan Kumar Chandana, co-founder and CEO of Skyroot Aerospace, said the company had done everything possible to test Vikram-1 on the ground, and was eager to see how the rocket would perform in a real flight environment for the first time. He added that the mission would provide valuable data that would be foundational to Skyroot’s goal of establishing a regular launch cadence.

Mission Objectives

The primary objective of Vikram-1’s first test flight was to achieve a successful lift-off, safe clearance of the launch tower, and gather maximum data throughout the ascent.

The flight sequence from lift-off to orbit injection covered 14 phases, with a total flight duration of 15 minutes and 46 seconds.

Mission Aagaman marks Skyroot Aerospace’s second major mission, following the successful suborbital flight of Vikram-S — the first private rocket to reach space from Indian soil — on November 18, 2022.

The company noted that this was a partially commercial flight, with plans to begin full commercial operations after one or two more successful demonstrations to orbit. The flight-ready Vikram-1 rocket was earlier unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in November 2025.
